What is NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming?

So what is NLP? NLP is the exploration of how we communicate, think and change with the aim of replicating and improving great performance in any context.

What is NLP?

NLP starts with an attitude, often of curiosity, of how things work, which leads to a methodology of modelling top performers, which in turn leads to techniques to improve performance.

What is NLP?

NLP combines aspects of whatever we find works, including behavioural psychology, linguistics, hypnosis, modelling and common sense to determine and explore the attitudes and traits of top performers. It then provides a series of techniques to help individuals to integrate and apply these same patterns into their own daily lives.

Thousands of people around the world use NLP as a powerful catalyst for personal change and to improve business performance.

The creators, Richard Bandler and John Grinder, undertook extensive studies of people who were highly skilled and respected in the field of human change through which they derived the toolkit that you can learn on a Practitioner course.

Personalities such as Tony Robins, Derren Brown and Paul McKenna use aspects of NLP to motivate and entertain, and top athletes use refined mental rehearsal techniques to reach the highest levels of performance.

You can even find highly effective applications of NLP in relationship, dating and seduction advice.

Because practising NLP gives us a way of leading and working with our thinking processes, as well as leading to greater success in whatever we choose, it can lead to increased personal freedom.

What is NLP in Business?

Applications from this initial work are now found in many areas of personal performance development including coaching, sales, leadership, change management, influence and impact.

To achieve business success we need to lead, manages, take action, review and coach. This includes both ourselves and the people we lead, manage and work with. We’ve developed models in all these areas which will help you improve whatever you’re currently doing.

In Michael’s business practice he uses a number of additional business models including: Kaplan’s balanced scorecard, Goldsmith’s stakeholder leadership and coaching models, Lencioni’s team models and Anderson’s challenger sale. NLP skills are a useful addition to apply and amplify the effective of these approaches.

Training

Exploring NLP is an experiential process and therefore book and theoretical learning beforehand can be as much of a hindrance as help - An NLP taster or NLP Training can give you that experiential experience after which reading can be exceptionally useful for reinforcing the experiential learning.

Understanding NLP, in the traditional sense, is NOT a requisite to being effective at it. Practice is!

NLP Training isn’t for everybody, but it’s potential (for you) is such that most people owe it to themselves to find out if it’s right for them.
